Venture debt
An increasing number of lenders have teams that will support businesses through the initial equity funding – generally as a proportion of the equity being raised – even where the business is pre-profit. This is designed to service particularly fast-growing businesses that can scale up from cash burn to high entity value very quickly.
A typical venture debt candidate will have an excellent management team in situ to drive the growth and manage the much bigger entity in two to three years, and equity sponsors who require detailed and comprehensive monthly reporting to closely follow the sales performance against plan and to scrutinise the costs and cash runway.
